Yesterday after updating a plugin on my WordPress site I received a 500 error. This error is basically saying that something is wrong with your website. In my case, I knew that I needed to disable the plugins but I could not get to the WordPress admin panel. I found the answer in the WordPress Codex. There were two options presented in the FAQ section titled: How to deactivate all plugins when not able to access the administrative menus? The tip didn’t have screenshots so below are two screenshots to illustrate the two tips.
- Use phpMyAdmin to deactivate all plugins
- User your host’s file manager, rename the folder “plugins” to “plugins.hold”
